Compaq EVO N600C Password-protected CMOS - Lost password - Help - d'oh
Posted by Al Dykes on September 18th, 2005

My N66C works fine but I've forgotten my CMOS password. My disk is all backed up.

Is there *any* way to reset the password ?

WHat happens if I put a new, bigger, IDE disk in it. Will CMOS
recognize the drive? What about more memory? If those work then I
don't care that I don't have the password.

Is the password case sensitive?

Grunble. 30 years of managing servers and production systems. This is
the first time I've lost a critical password in my life.

My Evo N600C had to go into the shop and the guy wanted the CMAS
password. Since the CMOS was protected by my all-time favorite
password I changed it to something and forgot to write it down.

Don't blame me. I voted for Gore.

Try pulling the batteries for a few hours. You could be lucky.

If resetting CMOS batt does not do the trick you will need a ne
security chip installed.. This is the only option.. (Not familia
w/make and model to tell whether CMOS and BIOS reset will accomplis
the task.
