compatible memory compaq presario laptop
Posted by BA on October 26th, 2003

Hi:

Anyone out there know how picky compaq presario laptops are with the memory
put in an expansion slot? I have a
presario 720US (windows xp, 1 GHZ AMD Athlon, 112 MB RAM). I just called
compaq a couple days ago and they said any PC133 MHZ SDRAM simm will work.
I just stuck a kingston in yesterday and now the computer does a hard freeze
every 60 minutes or so. I pulled the kingston out yesterday and tried
centon and am having the same problem.

I am getting a little worried that my expansion slot may be bad. In which
case I'm hosed since the computer is no longer under
warranty. this laptop needs a memory upgrade bad. it's just to slow running
xp and multiple programs at the same time. any ideas how much it would
cost to have a shop replace the expansion slot if that is even possible? or
would I need
to replace the main board?

thanks

BA

In article <1lUmb.15482$Ec1.1406601@bgtnsc05-
news.ops.worldnet.att.net>, blyth_austin@worldnet.att.net says...
memory selector and it proves not to work.

so you think it still may be th memory that is bad? I've tried 2 brands and
was thinking maybe the
expansion slot is bad. I'd really love it if it was just bad memory

thanks
