- connecting 2 pc's
- Posted by fluberman on July 26th, 2003
I want to setup a direct connection via network card between my laptop and
desktop to transfer large files.
1. I have "cross-over" cable as well as "twisted" cable. Which one should I
use ?
2. I tried several times using home-networking in windows xp but never
succeeded. How to do it correctly? I remember many years ago how easy it
was to connect 2 pc's under dos using parallel port.
many thanks.

Crossover. It is twisted pair too (or at least should be).
The other may be (probably is), a straight through.
First of, are the Link indicators lit on each NIC? If so your
phyisical network is good.
Second, you need the drivers installed for the nic in each PC.
Third, you need to configure a protocol and a client
Use the same protocol (I use IPX). Set the Identifications so they are
in the same workgroup.
Use Cleint for Microsoft Networks
Set it so you log with networking password.
