D800 vs I8500 vs X1000

I am debating on which laptop to get. I was leaning towards the
d800. But Best Buy currently has a great deal on Compaq's
X1000: Centrino 1.3ghz, 64MB ATI Mobility Radeon 9200, 15.4" WXGA,
256MB ram, 40GB, DVD/CDRW, widescreen, SD/MMC slot, FW, 3 USB2.0 ports,
JBL Pro speakers for $1099.99 after $250 rebates. For $50 more I can
get 1.4ghz, $100 more 60GB hard drive. Thats a pretty good deal. Can
d800 or i8500 beat that? Is x1000's Radeon 9200 64 MB card faster
than d800's (and i8500's) 64 MB GeForce4 4200 Go? I'll be using the
laptop for gaming, wireless net access and possibly some video
editing. I understand that Dell has a better reputation than compaq,
but the x1000 has been getting some solid reviews from cnet (cnet
user reviews), Laptop magazine, pcmag.com, etc. According to cnet,
x1000 is slightly lighter, smaller and thinner, has better battery
life (over 4 hours), sound and keyboard than the Dells. Dell gets a
plus in my book for including an eraserhead (trackpoint) (since that
is what I prefer) and supposedly better support (which I rarely use,
unless I need a replacement). Please post your comments and
suggestions. Thanks in advance.

You don't buy laptops by how fast they are or how big they are, but by
whether or not they do what you want.

Your laptop will be useless if you can't stand its keyboard and you
need it for keying. It'll be useless if its too heavy and you need it
for travel. Etc. Buy what satisfies your needs - don't be suckered into
choosing between different baits that the advertiser sets out for you.
