- dead vaio

Found a discarded Sony Vaio F150, missing battery, hd, and extra memory
card. It appears not to boot - drives make only a brief clicking sound, screen
stays dark; power led is green, 1st & 2nd battery LEDs turn orange only when
power button is pushed.
Should this model (300mhz, 32mb onboard ram) boot using the external
power jack when no battery is in place and the extra memory slot is empty?
Pushing the reset button turns off the power. The Vaio appears clean and
undamaged. Any way to test this unit and shake some life into it, or is it
good
for only parts? Wouldn't spend for restoration unless it showed some
lifesigns.

Try putting one of the batteries in and leave it charge
overnight. The CMOS battery may be dead and this trick seems
to work with some Sonys.

No can do - no batts included... New ones cost big $$$ ($150-200) so will look
for surplus type. CMOS batt is good; even removed it for a few days and tried
again; still no joy. The fan starts up on its own after a few minutes, then
shuts off again, else 'dead'.
Thanks for the feedback, anyhow.
