Do you think there is a difference between a home and a business
warranty. As far as I can tell, the model number is different but the
hardware can be exactly the same, is it worth to have my son buy a Dell
laptop as business purchase, or buy it myself as a home purchase. Thanks

Dell warranties for business used to be next day onsite. I think they're
offering depot drop-off for their business line as well now.

I've only ever purchased Dells for work so I can't give you a clear
comparison. One thing I can tell you for sure is that their business tech
support is much better then the consumer variant. With the business tech
support you speak with an American that will not go through a long script of
questions if you know what you want - ie: new harddrive. The consumer
support is in India and they will insist you spend time with them going
through their script while the veins in your forehead great ready to
explode.

You should also keep in mind that they have different product lines -
consumer laptops are in the Inspiron line and business laptops are in the
Latitude line.

Ask Dell.

In the past, some of Dell's warranties, such as their "Gold Tech Support,"
have only been available to Small Business Division (or higher) purchasers.

Supposedly, these warranties are now available to Home Division purchasers,
but you've got to ask!

My Gold Tech Support warranty is "Same Day 4-Hour 5x10 Parts and Labor On-Site Response,"
which means 4 hour response time, 5 days per week, 10 hours per day. After hours, it rolls
over to the next business day.
