Dell Inspiron 8000 laptop - maximum size harddisk upgrade ?
Posted by FCM Wiesmans on August 3rd, 2007

Hi there.

I checked Dell's website and online manuals but I could not get an
answer to my questions, so here I go.

Does anybody know what the maximum size for HD upgrade to replace the
current (10G) harddisk in a Dell Inspiron 8000 laptop is?

And could anybody suggest the best price/quality choice from this
list?

Same question, but now on the choice of memory. The Inspirion 8000 can
take 2 x 256 MB of RAM. There is now a 128 MB module inside. Can I
plug in just 256 MB. Or do they need to be the same size?

According AIDA32 (system inventory app) the Dell has:

System Memory Specifications
Standard Memory 64 MB (removable)
Maximum Memory 512 MB
Memory Expansion 2 sockets
Memory Comments PC100 /Pc133 SDRAM SODIMMs.

According to Dell's website this should be:

256MB Module 32x64-133MHz PC133, 144p SODIMM, 3.3v, Sync 493sodimm-118
311-1398

Is (below) this the correct memory?

Thanks in advance for any help !

this just a guess but if you have a 10 you should be able to go to 30
without problems.
If there is an update to the bios you may want to do that. Some bios updates
provide support for larger drives.

You will probably get some good advice on the Dell forums - some searching
there may turn up to answer to your question. If not, asking there will get
answers from users of that model.

And thanks for the tip about the BIOS-limitation, forgot about
that ;-)
