Dell laptop Keyboard types 4,5,6 on u, i, o
Posted by sdlomi2 on August 22nd, 2007

I need help, please. Friend bro't me her Dell 1100 Inspiron. Couldn't
get on internet. Keyboard types numbers 4,5,6 on u, i, o,........1,2,3 on
j,k,l....zero on m...and others. Those lettered keys that type numbers have
the numbers on the keys, but in a different color and smaller character.
I did repair-install w/her OS disc & took care of the internet problem.
But, I feel like there is a setting on the laptop that needs to be reset (or
"unset"). Anybody know what I need to do? BTW: it has XP Home with
SP1--I'm now attempting to install updates WITH SP2.
Thanks to all who can and will help. s

Sorry, I just committed the unpardonable--asked before I googled & found
the solution--pressed the "fn" and the "num lk" keys simultaneously &
released it. Must be the case is too little to have a complete & separate
set of numbers, so it has to use some of the letter-keys for certain
numbers. My BAD! s

You have turned on the Numeric keypad emulation on the laptop. You can turn
ot off again (usually a function key plus the numeric pad key).

The keyboard is locked with the numlock. It is set up right now for
people like accountants that use the numer keypad. Unlock the numlock
by holding cntrl+numlock and it will correct itself.
