- Dell Latitude charging problem
- Posted by hpaakko@gmail.com on May 21st, 2008
Hi
Problem with Dell Latitude C640 (new laptop to me, no knowledge of
history):
- works fine with batteries and chargers but wont charge batteries
(tested in both bays)
- battery charging light doesnt react with or without battery
- batteries and chargers (2+2) tested with other latitude, works fine
- in BIOS batteries are "IDLE" but not charging, with other latitude
batteries are "charging"
- tested with Dell diagnosis program, test result OK
Have anyone heard about similiar problem and where to start to fix it?
Is there some kind of charging circuit integrated into the mainboard?
Does anyone have a schematic of the mainboard?
Any kind of help would be great.

You likely have a bad motherboard.

I think someone knows the components in the board that are involved
with the charging circuit.
These are the information that I need.

Aside from the normal secrecy surrounding all the intellectual property,
anybody who does know can make a lot more $$ fixing laptops than by
telling everybody else how. It's all about the Benjamins.
'bout all you can do is reverse-engineer the circuit.
I'd start with testing all the big fets and diodes.

That seems to be the only way to solve my problem.

It is. But the information you want is closely guarded under lock and
key. So you must do what the rest of us need to do. We have to reverse
engineer.
