DIY laptop?

anyone tried homebrewing a laptop? i'd like to make a custom machine as
if building a desktop. one idea we've been tossing around is to take a
small desktop motherboard and rig up a portable power supply and LCD.

any suggestions?

thanks,

briefcase computer reminds me of the old IBM computers that were pretty much
briefcases. The old 386 with the amber screens and the full size keyboards.

You can get real close. There are small integrated motherboards like the
mini-itx and sbc's that you can use. Some of them have the hardware to
drive laptop lcd's and a few are pretty low power. They usually don't have
mini-pci slots and pcmcia slots.
