- A fatal error then memory dump
- Posted by Benny Van on May 2nd, 2007
Hello All!
I don't know if anyone had this problem before, but I had this issue
on two of my laptops. One is compaq, I got this error message, then I
reboot the laptop, it said no hard drive could be found, I replaced
the HD, issue solved. But another laptop is a IBM t43, I had this
problem 3 or 4 times, I just opened it and ran some docs, and I left
for a cup of coffee, then came back , I found a big blue screen said---
fatal error, begin memory dump or so....but when I reboot it,
everything is OK, I could still work on it. I checked my memory... I
think it's 3 GB, worked fine, paging file is good, no error message
related with this issue in the event viewer(I am using WinXP
pro)...any one who has idea what's going on with this laptop? it's
really annoying....thanks!
Sincerely,
Ben

We had something similar on our desktop for a month or two before the hard
disk finally died Most times the PC would start fine, but once or twice a
week it would crash and need a reboot. Sometimes it would need to be
rebooted a couple of times to get it to start. Eventually it gave up the
ghost completely and a new HDD was needed.
Don't expect HDD failures to be catastrophic and irrevocable straight away.
