- Gaming Laptop Recommendations

I'm looking for a desktop-replacement gaming-worthy laptop for less than
an arm and a leg. My current fave is the Alienware Area-51m
<http://alienware.com>, although a nicely decked out model is starting
to push the budget. Mainly, I want something that's not afraid to
include a decent video chip. Does anyone here any have suggestions?
An interesting sidenote: the upcoming Area-51m model advertises an
upgradable video chip <http://alienware.com/pcg>. Is there anything out
there now that has this feature?

Thanks for the suggestions. Looks like the latter is a web hosting site,
though. Am I missing something?

I have a laptop with a GeForce4 440. That graphics card seems to be as
powerful as a similar card in my desktop PC.
Don't underestimate heat generation. Although I have no real problems, my
laptop gets a bit warmer when I play a game, while it doesn't when I just
surf on the Internet or work with Excel or Word...
My laptop is a Paradigit Voyager.

I got a DELL 8500 with 64MB video. SUXGA screen, 40gig 5400rpm HDD,
2.2ghz, DVD/CD-RW, 512RAM.
I play Unreal II, R6 Raven Shield, America's Army and many other high
end games on it.
Took it to a LAN and played Diablo 2 for 11 hours straight with no
problems.
Mine was $1750 after the $450 online rebate, in April. You can now get
it for about $1650 after the current $300 rebate.
The only thing I wish it had was a 7200rpm drive as the HDD is the
bottleneck these days when it comes to high end gaming.
One other thing to keep in mind is that if you play using just the
battery the notebook cuts the ghz used and brightness of the screen.

Haven't messed with the "speed step" however I have turned the
brightness to max and then as I let it boot up it reverts back to dim.

Once booted, what happens when you push the Fn+ [up arrow] keys? On
my 8200 you can adjust the brightness that way. I assume the 8500 is
similar.
