I have a Gateway Silo 1450 that began by the display becoming totally
dim - barely perceptible. The ability to switch to external video was
intermittent - especially when WinXP had completely booted.

I replaced the inverter - no change
I acquired a new Display (complete lid assy.) - no change
I replaced the main board assy. - moving CPU, FD, HD & DVD - display
came back, but dimmer than expected.
I substituted the new Display (complete lid assy.) again, but the
brilliance was exactly the same as the original.

Does anyone know of a 'Brightness' adjustment for this laptop? Unlike
Compaq and others, there is no (Fn) function plus keys to adjust from
the keyboard.

I appreciate any suggestions.
