- HELP! How to Open a Sony Vaio PCG-TR5
- Posted by Justin on May 18th, 2008
Well... I made the mistake of getting a cheap ultraportable off ebay
about six months ago. It has worked well so far but now the hard drive
is about to quit.
I have opened laptops before, prety many actually. normally I'm done in
half an hour. But this machine is held together by a force I don't
understand.
I'm attaching a picture indicating where the mystery force appears to be.
I realize I made a mistake getting Sony but its too late now. This has
to last me through the next few months.
Here are some pictures of the unit...
This picture is where whatever is holding it together is actually
holding it together. I see no way to get at it.

Here is an image is the unit itself with jkdefrag running.
It is not a normal Vaio, the speakers are at the top, so it doesn't come
apart like a normal vaio.
The ruler is there just to show scale. The screen is 11 inches.

Here are all the screws I took out, including the one under the RAM cover.

It does look like you may have to pry back at that point of the case,
where it is labeled 'CLAW' on page 4.
(Just be gentle. If you have a heavy guitar pick, it works really well
for prying, without marring the case).
Here are the rest of the Sony manuals:

Stinks...
My TR isn't listed. I have asked on other forums and its as if this
laptop doesn't exist.
The Claw... figures. I'll tear that thing open if its the last thing I
do. Now its personal.
Know any places with good prices on those tiny form factor hard drives?

What type of connector is this and will the Toshiba MK1214GAH work?
