How to use an external keyboard at my Toshiba Satellite Pro 410 CDT
Posted by Uwe Kotyczka on November 24th, 2003

Got an old Toshiba Satellite Pro 410 CDT. Used to work fine. Now
I've go problems with the keyboard. Some letters (i, k, VK_SPACE,
VK_RETURN, ...) do not work anymore. Not in Windows and not in DOS
mode. Really uncomfortable :-(

I thought it's the keyboard physically. So I bought 2 cheap ones
at EBay, inserted them - but got the same result. The keys mentioned
above still do not work. So it's not the keyboard nor the flat cable.

Next I thought to try it with an external keyboard. Working with an
external mouse is simple. I just plug it in at the PS2 socket, turn
power on and the the mouse works. However if I plug in the PS2
external keyboard, turn power on, then NOTHING happens. The internal
keyboard is still active, the external not.

What am I missing? Do I have to change some BIOS setting to use the
external keyboard? What else could I do to get back some normal
keyboard? Any ideas appreciated.

Uwe
