HP Compaq nx7400 Laptop USB mouse prob
Posted by sjc on September 30th, 2006

I've just bought a brand new Compaq nx7400 laptop and its great. I did'nt
buy a mouse with it so I went out and bought a Belkin USB scroll mouse.
Despite downloading drivers from belkin.com (recommended) I can't get the
laptop to recognise it. In device manager I just get unknown device and if I
follow the "found new hardware" wizard I get "problem installing this
hardware".

Do I have to have an HP USB mouse instead?

Thx

It sounds like Windows doesn't know what it is. Have you opened up the
Unknown device and used the reinstall drivers (or whatever it is
called). As that is the only way some drivers can be installed.
Especially if you install the device before installing the drivers.
