- HP Compaq NX9010 and memory troubles

Hello all!
I'd like to get some help in my almost desperate case. I have an HP
Compaq nx9010 laptop computer, with 256 MB RAM. I wanted to upgrade it,
so I asked HP for which kind of component to buy.
They told me that this laptop needed some 200 pin, PC2100 module (128,
256 or 512 MB).
Well, I bought a 512 MB, PC2100 (266 MHz), 200 pin module, put it into
my laptop and it didn't get to boot (actually it stopped *before* POST).
I made some tests with one module only (the new 512 MB one) and in
every slot I put it in, no way: laptop didn't boot.
Then I made the same test with the "original" 256 MB module and the
laptop worked. As I looked a bit nearer, I saw that the originally
shipped module (working) was *not* a PC2100, but instead is a PC2700
333MHz CL2.5... well, I thought to substitute the PC2100 with a PC2700
512 MB module... I did this, but STILL the laptop didn't boot.
HP is telling me that's impossible that a PC2700 module is working, and
instead suggested that the PC2100 module was damaged. The
configurations suggested by HP also talk about 256 + 512 MB, so this is
not the problem.
What could *really* the problem be?
Any help would be appreciated.

Crucial.com specifies only 333

Hmmm.
It's possible that your 266MHZ module is functional, but just not quite up
to par for the HP machine. Are all the other specs comparable? (such as CAS
latency - 2.5 or 3?)

Well, based only on the specs provided, it ought to. But I'd check that
they guarantee compatibility with your model, or money back....
