I'm sorry if this seems longer than necessary, but I'm looking for a
suggestion what the best course of action would be to do.
I purchased my IBM Thinkpad R40, and later purchased a Mini-PCI Cisco
350 wireless card. It worked great until early December when I found
myself dealing with the now-famous 1802 error saying I'm using an
illegal Mini-PCI card in my system.
I called IBM about this, and was told to update my ACU program, and
later the firmware. At first the ACU upgrade seemed to work, and I
didn't experience any trouble again until early this week - same 1802
error.
I then tried to upgrade my firmware, and it reported that the upgrade
was successful. The next morning - I had no connectivity.
The ACU reported I was in Ad-Hoc mode, and I couldn't get out of that
mode. I then looked at the firmware version, and it report "v ".
I decided then to re-load the firmware into the card - this now fails
with an 'error writing to memory' error.
I can still use a friend's PCMCIA Cisco 350 card, but can no longer
use the Mini-PCI card I have installed.
Basically, I'm reviewing three possible solutions:
1) Find some other way to flash the card if there is one
2) Purchase another Cisco 350 (IBM FRU#31P8301) card
3) Purcahse the new IBM 31P9701 MiniPCI Card - - If it will support
connecting to a Cisco 350 Access Point using LEAP.
Does anyone have any experience with this proble, or have a
suggestion for this? Thanks in advance!
