- IBM Thinkpad R50e - fried USB?
- Posted by juraj5@gmail.com on January 9th, 2007
I have an IBM Thinkpad R50e.
I was doing something with an USB bluetooth dongle plugged in. The
laptop suddenly shut down, instantly, and was totally dead for about
5-6 minutes. I took the dongle out. I managed to the machine on, and
was surprised to see that it works. Unfortunately, something happened
with the USB ports - Windows complained on few boots about a power
surge on one of the hubs (it listed a lot of them, but I have only 2 -
weird). Anyway, if I plug anything in any of the two USB ports, it
successfully gets power from the system, but the OS won't see the
device. I've booted a live linux distro to verify that the problem
isn't in Windows.
What should I do? Are my USB ports fried?
TIA
