If this were a medical site ....

Excuse me for posting to Alt.Medicine.Surgery.Neurological, but I have a
question.

I've shaved my head, made the skin incision and peeled back my scalp. I
used a circular saw from the garage to remove the top of my skull and
I'm now looking at my exposed brain.

According to Mike's "Neurogical certification Passport", 2nd edition, to
remove my tonsils I'm supposed to begin on the left side. My question
is, is that the "left side" from my (the patient's) perspective, or from
the perspective that a physician would have looking at the patient?
And, since I'm doing all of this by looking in a mirror, what impact
does that have on which side I start with?

Sorry for asking such simple questions, but I'm kind of a newbie at
this, in fact I've never done any surgery before.

You first have to determine if you have an original brain or a Compal model.

Actually, Barry, as your operation progresses you will find that the answer
to your question will diminish dramatically as to its importance. ;>}

It's obsolete. Get a new model.

Barry,
Get the yellow book, "Neurosurgery for Dummies" at your bookstore, or since
you like eBay so much, bid on a used copy there. Be sure to get the 2nd
edition, because the figure you need (p. 79) is reversed in the first
edition. Ignore the chapter on post-operative care--you won't need it.
Good luck.
