- Laptop IDE interface types
- Posted by Matt on April 7th, 2004
Hello,
I was wondering if someone could explain the differences between the
standard IDE interface (found on common PC systems) and the
interface(s) used on laptops.
I can't seem to find very much information on Google about this. I am
curious about the different kinds of laptop IDE interfaces available,
how many are in common use today, And what I should be looking for
when purchasing a drive for my notebook.
Also if anyone has a link to such information it would be helpful.
Thanks.

There isn't any difference. They are identical. However, the
connectors that are used are different, and power is integrated into the
same connector, giving it 44 pins (40 signal + 4 power) rather than the
signal only 40 pin connector found on desktops. But electrically, they
interfaces are identical.
