Laptop power problems

I've got a problem with the power on my Sony Z1RA. When the unit is
plugged in, the power meter says it's charging, yet the % battery
remaining continues to fall. When it reaches a low enough level the
computer goes into hibernation mode. This all happnes when the
computer is plugged into the wall (not on battery). If I turn the
computer off, the battery will be charged. Also to note, the power
profile seems to switch back and forth between battery and A/C all
while it is plugged in. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Time for a new AC adapter. It might also be a failing voltage
controller on the mainboard, but the AC adapter is the primary suspect,
IMO. Can the laptop function without the battery?

Thanks for the insight. I just tried to start the computer without the
battery. It powers up for a split second and then powers off. What
does this mean? Thanks.

Output from the AC adapter is too low to support normal operation.
Looks like the adapter to me.
