Hi,
Is it possible to use a stand alone Samsung 22" syncmaster 226 CW
(resolution 1600X1050@60Hz) with a laptop with NVidia Geforce 8600M-GT card
in it? (Acer Aspire 5920G)

DirectX 10. It would be unusual for this modern chipset to not support
your external monitor. The simplest thing you can try is to take the
laptop to a store that has one on display and ask then if you can plug
the monitor into your laptop and verify that they work together. Bring
an appropriate cable with you to make things easy.
If the monitor is not correctly recognized by the laptop, you may need
to load drivers that come with the monitor.
