Well you can purchase a laptop without an OS. But in my experience, they
cost more. So if you find what you want and it is cheaper with an OS,
why not buy it and delete it?

And it might be helpful if you you grab Driver Genius Professional 5.3
for free from the URL below and grab the drivers before you erase the OS
from the computer.

Yes they appear from time to time, but like IBM and others who tried,
they don't sell well. So they generally cost more to make it worth their
while. And if the OEM promises that all they will sell is MS OS on their
computers, they get a big discount. Thus why most OEM manufactures won't
bother with non-MS OS computers. As Windows machines sells so much
better than no Windows machines. Sadly, this is a fact of life.

No, you use the "standard" version, but like any computer (laptop or
desktop) you need all of the drivers for the hardware in the target
system. There will, typically, be more drivers required for a laptop
than for a desktop, and the drivers will be less generic. But Windows
itself is the same.
