- least proprietary manufacturer?

I am in the market for my first laptop. I want to know who is the least
proprietary of the manufacturers.
How easy are laptops to upgrade...HDD's Ram, video cards etc? I.E Can I
just go to my local supplier and pick up a video card abc and install it?
Also recommendations on who lean towards and who to stay away from.
Thoughts appreciated.

Virtually all laptops are totally proprietary. In most of them you can
upgrade the hard drive and memory, and that's it.
