NEC Notebooks
Posted by G7 on November 30th, 2003

Hello,

I'm currently looking into purchasing an NEC Versa M500 notebook. I was
wondering if anyone had any experience and/or comments concerning the quality
and useability of these machines as it's been extremely difficult to find an
independent review of them anywhere...and believe me I've looked.

I plan to use the machine as a mobile workstation as I often travel between
locations. I will be doing mostly network admin with some development work.
Graphics aren't a priority, but I would like the display to be reliable as I
will spend a great many hours behind the machine at work and at home.

This particular machine provides:
Intel Centrino 1.4 GHz
256MB DDR RAM
4-in-1 Cardreader
40GB HDD 5400RPM
Modem/LAN/Wireless-LAN (Intel)
15.1"TFT XGA/32MB Integrated Intel Graphics

Software is irrelevant because I will be "restructuring" ;^) shortly after I
get it home. I plan to dual-boot with FreeBSD (if possible) otherwise I may
have to run VMware.

Any comments or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Gabriel
