Need help dx laptop prob

I have a laptop that *froze* while in use. It would not take any input
whatsoever and the screen display *froze*. I attempted to reboot and it
won't even get to the bios. All that happens it the CPU fan runs for 4 sec
at power on, then it stops. I tried this on AC only, battery only, and
both. I tried removing the hdd and optical drive. None of this had any
effect. I'm thinking the CPU is toast. Any ideas?
TIA

More likely that the motherboard or power supply is toast. But,
overall, it's likely that the laptop is toast. It probably still has
significant value, however .... keyboard, LCD screen, optical drive,
case and hard drive are likely all good. Also battery & AC adapter.

After I posted, I looked around to see if I could see anything fried, put it
back together, and it booted completely. It ran for a while, but when I got
done setting up my AP again, the laptop's display was going nuts. One thing
I noticed was the CPU's heatsink compound has dried up. Maybe if I get some
new and put it on it will help. The fins and fan had little dust, which I
cleaned. Yeah, if I can't get it going again I'll part it out or something.
It's too old to put much money in it.

I face the same problem as your after one year use and the root cause is the
damage one of RAM slot.
