- New Toshiba Laptop - P25-S507
- Posted by George Chapman on June 27th, 2003
Toshiba just released their Axx series of Satellite laptops this week,
and they are releasing the new P25-S507 next week. Does anyone have
ANY info on the P25-S507? It sounds like it will be 2.8 GHz with
Hyperthreading enabled, and a new 17" widescreen display.

From Toshiba themselves. I bought one this weekend (preorder) and it
ships tomorrow. I believe their website will be updated with the new
models tomorrow (July 1, 2003).

It's on their website now with detail spec. But I'm still waiting for the
product tour.

Hi Oscar,
Thanks for reminding us it's made by Compal. I have a question regarding
Portege R100. This model has been removed from Toshiba's website. It's
weird that a corporate model has such short product life cycle. Is it due
to design flaws? Do you have a lot of this model in the service center?

Hi Oscar,
Thanks for your reply. I just checked Toshiba Japan and found the new
model. I believe it is the new Portege R100. The major difference is: 1Ghz
P-M and Intel 855GM chipset. You can check the link below if you are
interested in this (in Japanese):

I picked mine up from ShopToshiba.com last week. I am very pleased
with it so far. I bought it as a development machine for my new job
(I am a telecommuter) and it builds faster than my old desktop used to
(a P4 2.4GHz with RAID drive and 512 meg of memory!) I was very
impressed!
The widescreen is going to take a little getting used to but so far I
really like it.

I got one from COSTCO and it has bad pixels in the center. Returned
the next day and got another one which is perfect. With a 2K$ price
tag, one bad pixel is too much. But if you buy via email, they'll tell
you that manuf spec is 12 pixels before they exchange that. Sound
works great in the unit. This is the best sound I've ever heard from
any portables. The WinDVD player is a piece of junk as this P25
version of WinDVD will not play VCD, MP3 etc...only DVD. Toshiba
acknowledge that and suggest using Windows media player V9. Works but
quality is very poor. I suggest delete them all to save disk space and
use Real One V2 that plays everything with 2x quality. COSTCO's P25
version is S487, sells for $200 less and the CPU is a 3 GHz which is
about $150 more than the 2.8 of the S507. COSTCO's no question ask
exchange policy is 6 months. Try that with any other place (DELL, SAMS
Club, Sony ... - they might laugh at you!!) One problem is that this
P25 will not fit into any of my 1/2 dozen computer cases !!!
