Noisy Toshiba Satellite Laptop A30-203
Posted by Akiel on November 7th, 2003

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased the Toshiba Satellite A30-303 (P4-2.66, 256MB,
30GB, etc.) and it has this irritating habit that the fan turns on (a
bit too audibly for my taste) every twenty seconds to couple of
minutes, for a duration of 10 seconds or so. (Come to think of it, I'm
only assuming that the whirring sound is that of a fan, but what else
could it be?) BTW, I'm running it on AC power.

Since this is the first time I've ever owned/used a laptop, I'd like
to know if this is a common thing with all laptops, or this particular
make, or whether there's something wrong and I should go charging back
to the retailers for repair/replacement?

Would playing with the Toshiba Advanced Power Management Utility
thingie make any difference? And if so, what setting should I opt for?

Thanks in advance,

Akiel

I had the same problem when I got a new HP laptop. You eventually get used
to it, but you still long for the good old days of 1990s laptops which
didn't even have fans and seemed to work very well.
