- Oddball message

A message appeared on my Compaq Presario just long enough for me to
get the gist of it: that my pointer mechanism had been disabled
because it had already picked up that ANOTHER pointer was already in
use. The "pointer mechanism" is what I mean by the little rectangle at
the bottom of the laptop where you move your finger around to move the
pointer, the "mouse" in other words. I do NOT have a second pointer
attached to this computer. What could have caused this message? I'm
sorry I couldn't get the exact message.
Thanks

That thing is what most of us calls a touchpad. ;-) And it sounds like
you have more than one mouse driver installed. If true, hard to say how
that happened. Did you connect up a mouse sometime in the past? Check
your Device Manager and see if there is two of them.
