- Parallel port, 12" screen & CDRW
- Posted by trouble on September 1st, 2003
Hi,
I am having trouble finding a laptop that fills these 3 criteria.
- parallel port
- CDRW
- 12" screen (or less)
It needs the parallel port to attatch a dongle and a USB->parallel
converter won't do. Can anyone help with this?
Thanks,
Ciao.

Get the BACKPACK burner. Ideal for laptops etc. Bi/Dir
epp port cable is all you need. Slow but sure!
Use Ghost with the backpack as your imager backup.

Uh, excuse me? I don't follow what you said. What I'm looking for is a
laptop with (a) 12" screen, (b) parallel port and (c) CDRW. The CDRW
would ideally be combo.

Links to computers that appear to meet your specs.
The first one is

The second is

The third is

There's 37 more links on
http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_a...be48bb531876e7 ;
one or more should give you what you need in a 12.1" laptop with a
CD-RW. There were no 11" laptops shown on Pricegrabber with CD-RW
drives. There were eight 10.6" laptops at
http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_a...be48bb531876e7 ;
again, one or more should fit your needs. The sole laptop that turned
up on a search for laptops with displays smaller that 10" was an
erroneous return, as its screen is actually 15" on the diagonal.

Computers are increasingly being built without "legacy" ports like
the serial and parallel ports. Since you do have a specific app that's
driving your search for a new computer you may have to either go to the
second hand market or contact the application vendor and see what he's
doing WRT making the product useful on legacy-free laptops.

Now if only they had a CDRW... (combo doesn't mean a 2lb, +1" thick
"Ultrabase" by my understanding)
Thanks for your help anyway, looks like I'm going to have to buy a
brick 14.1 notebook after all. Ciao
