you started, but there's not a good high-speed option that's available
everywhere.

It's worth a try to see if anyone has a wireless network accessible from
your office. If so, all you need is a wireless card, which comes standard
on a lot of new notebooks.

Don't plug your modem directly into your office phone system, without
checking first. Most office phone systems which have intercoms and lighted
displays carry a current that will kill your modem. A lot of offices have
phone lines outside of the PBX system for faxes, etc. If you can get access
to a line outside your PBX, you can use a regular dialup account...most
laptops will have built-in modems, or you can buy a PC-Card modem for less
than $50.

You can get a digital phone adaptor that will let you plug into most PBX's
safely and then use your home dial-up account--it may be fairly slow, but
that's probably the most universal solution. Unless someone at home is
logged in at the same time, in which case most ISP's will make you get a 2nd
account.

If you are in an area served by T-Mobil AND you can get their cellular
service in you office, that's probably the best. However, a lot of office
buildings don't get very good cellualar service so check before your buy.
Other cellular providers are starting to offer service, but get a system
that bills you for minutes, not data rates, or you'll go broke downloading
your email.

check for free WiFi access and buy a wireless (802.11b) wireless
adapter for your laptop.
