- PLease Help!! Problem with Dell Laptop Bios Upgrade
- Posted by PRSF on August 8th, 2003
Hi, I installed WinXp Pro on a Dell latitude P2 laptop, it had problem
commuincating with ta 3com 56K pc card modem. I was told upgrade the
BIOS will fix the problem. But after I upgrade the bios from A05 to
A12, the laptop won't start anymore. It did not past POST. What do I
have to do to bring it back? Is the motherboard got fried? Please
help.
When I was trying to upgrade the BIOS, I had cards in my PC card
slots.
Dell metioned upgrade BIOS may accidently got into ACPI mode instead
of APM. If so, how to covert it back to the right mode??
I removed memroy, HD, floppy or CD-rom, but still can not get to POST.
I checked the hard drive, it is good, WinXP on the HD can still boot
up in another Dell laptop.
Thanks a lot!

Try the Flash again, after verifying it is the right version for your
model.

comp.sys.laptops:
Hey, I seem to remember that you choose an advanced option on
installation to set apm vs. acpi installation. Then the install
creates the appropriate HAL as part of the installation. So try
reinstalling with the options that you want.

Thanks for the suggestion, but since the system won't start, I can not
reinstall the windows again. I think the problem is with the bios, is
there anyway I can flash it again. Someone suggest hot swapping, but I
am afraid to fry another one.
Tahnks.
