- Power Problems with Dell Inspiron 8200
- Posted by Bob Lemmon on November 9th, 2005
Can anyone tell me why i keep having power problems with my Dell Inspiron
8200?
One time, I basically burned out a AC power adapter, another time, the port
on the MB went out. Now, I'm having the same kinda problems again - i have
to wrap the cord in such a way that tension is put on the port in a certain
direction. Why do I keep burning out the port? I have a new adapter
(neither of them are the ones that got recalled) - but it behaves in the
same way.
thanks for any help

Had mine for three years. Have been very happy with it.

I and/or family have had three Inspirons. All three have had hinge
binding and AC jack failures. Three is not a statistic, but it has
given me cause to approach Dell with trepidation. (In fairness, one is
still used as a laptop and the other two are now print servers). I now
insist that my own laptops are never moved with the AC adapter plugged
in since there is the probability of placing undue stress on the jack
assembly. AC jack and/or mainboard problems with the AC adapter are
very frequently reported on this newsgroup and are not limited to Dell;
this might be the most frequently reported mechanical problem.

Given the fragility of pretty much all the jacks in notebooks and the fact
that often their only mechanical fixture is the circuit board, I think
that's good advice for all.
FWIW, I never had a problem with this in 6 years with two Inspirons
(including an 8200).
