- Print server installation? ? ?
- Posted by Ray Jenkins on December 27th, 2003
I just got a Linksys WPS11 Wireless PrintServer, but I can't get it to work.
I followed every step carefully in installing the hardware and attaching the
printer. The LED lights for both LAN and ACT come on green, but the light
for WLAN doesn't come on. The user guide says it's supposed to come on as
amber.
The ERR light comes on as red.
I have installed the Bui-Admin Management software fro the disc, and when I
run the Print Port Setup, it seems to search for printer server by TCP/IP. .
But eventually I get a message on the Addport screen which says:
"Device not found, please check:
1. Connections (power cord, ethernet cable, printer cable).
2. The Print Server and your PC are on the same LAN and have compatible IP
address."
If I keep tinkering I can find a screen that has only zeros listed in the IP
addresses, etc.
The user guide is a very poor guide.
Any and all guidance appreciated.

what kind of printer are you using? Some print servers don't like those all
in one jobbies....

Thanks Joe --
I'm using an HP LaserJet6L.
Actually, since posting, with some outside help, I finally got the wireless
print server to working. I must say, Linksys's user guide is the worst set
of instructions I've ever encountered. Some of it is outright incorrect.
I still haven't figured out how to make the print server entirely wireless.
I still have to keep it connected to the router by cable. But that's no big
problem, because the two laptops are now communicating with the printer
wireless.
Do you have any idea how to make the amber light go on beside the WLAN on
the print server? That seems to be the culprit.
Thanks again, Ray.
