Processor Speed or RAM?
Posted by Infnet on December 4th, 2005

Our Compaq Presario 12XL505 laptop with 184 MB of RAM and Intel Celeron
766 MHZ
is not playing DVD's correctly on ANY program we install....

When we hti PLAY with the DVD inserted on any installed DVD program,
the screen turns totally DARK - and we don't know how to
get the screen back unless we unplug the computer and reboot...

We suspect it's a lack of RAM...or could be processor speed...

Installed is a Trident Video Accelerator CyberBlade for a default
monitor per display -
-that's NOT giving us good resolution - even at highest 32 bit at
1024x768....could this be it?

ANY advice would be helpful...thanks

Those specs are adequate for DVD playback. What operating system?
184MB is fine for Windows 98, it's probably inadequate for XP. You may
not have the right drivers or DVD playback software.

We're using XP PRO 2002....
...but WHY would the screen go BLANK after starting a DVD?....

We fixed the problem...
Apparently we didn't have the correct CODEC installed...

Thanks
