Maybe it is stupid question, but what is the difference between FlexView and
non-FlexView display. I got recently R40 with 15" SXGA+ (model 2722 GAU).
The web site does not mention FlexView on this particular model and when I
tried to find out which models do have it and which do not, I found out it
looks more like it is not advertised anymore (even on models that do have
it).

Richard, here's what I wrote a couple of days ago in another thread:
"What's the difference? You know how a TFT display has a rather limited
vertical viewing angle--and the display even looks like a photographic
negative if you're looking at it from the wrong angle? Let's say you are
sitting down and want to show something on your screen to somebody who is
standing up--you have to tip the display back so that they can see it
clearly. The FlexView display eliminates this problem--it looks good at just
about any viewing angle."
I don't think any of the R series machines have FlexView. I believe it's
only on certain A series machines.
To get detailed specifications on any ThinkPad, the best place to look is
the famous TBOOK series of PDF files. From the ThinkPad mailing list's
Mini-FAQ:
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pcinstitute/psref/
tabook/tawbook - A/T/X series
tbook/twbook - 2xx, 3xx, 5xx, 600, 7xx, 8xx series
tibook/tiwbook - i series
trbook/trwbook - R series

Michael,
thanks for the explanation, now I understand, why it is so hard to get
comfortable view over my large display, it is definitely not FlexView type
. I thought some T model might have it, but also did not find any
reference on web site which is a bit surprise for me since I would expect
the T "flag ship" series will have it.
I did not notice those effects, you wrote about, on my old TP600E 13"
display (or it even might be 12" - I am not sure right now), but on this
large 15" it is really noticable (and also a bit annoying).
Also thanks for pointing out the complete datasheet FTP location.
