Yes, there are PC Card (and it should be "PC Card" and not "PCMCIA
Card") serial ports that will do exactly what you want, and with some
cell phones, you are correct that you can only use a PC card serial port
and not a USB to serial converter (for example, my QCP860 will work only
with a PC Card serial port).

The problem is that finding a serial port PC card is not easy, they tend
to be expensive, and compatability is hit-or-miss. The most commonly
available cards (the Eiger cards made for Fujitsu) nominally don't work
with XP, although I was able to find some drivers that seemed to support
them after much searching.
