- Recommendations for carrying case for larger laptop?
- Posted by DP on July 30th, 2003
I'm looking to get a travel case for my Toshiba 5205 series laptop
(dimensions 13" x 11.6" x 1.8"). Ideally, I'd like something small and
sleek, a bag that can smoothly store the laptop, the power cord, a
travel lock and maybe a cell phone and a magazine or two. I'd only be
using it when I fly, so I don't need something a foot thick with
folder compartments and the like. I do want a shoulder strap included,
and the ability to lock the zippers would be swell.
I've been looking at low-end (or at least low-cost) bags like the High
Sierra Consort Expandable Attache (check it out at
http://www.irvs.com/image.asp?itemno=756) and U.S. Luggage's Ballistic
Nylon Computer Case (http://www.irvs.com/image.php?itemno=B110).
(I provide links to Irv's Luggage because they are convenient but know
I can save money if I shop around
).
Any advice would be appreciated!

Chack out the TM2300 also.
I really like mine. But it's not cheap.

US Luggage K47. I use one with my Dell 8500 and have been very happy.
Especially considering the price. I did add a bit of padding on my
own.
It has a expandable compartment so you can use it thick or thin-ish. I
have it chocked full and it's about 8 or 9 inches thick.

Perhaps the original poster was looking for something smaller, but for
large bags, believe it or not, REI sells a very nice large size laptop
nylon briefcase. Sorry for the long link, but here it is:

After struggling with a (higher quality) semi-soft leather case that
was less than flexible, I just bought the REI bag for my 8500. Although, I
do use a different and better fitting inner case for the laptop itself, the
original inner case holds accessories quite tidily alongside the laptop in
the primary compartment, and there are a gaggle of extra pockets (~12). I
can even have my other sub-notebook flanking the 8500 inside without
issue. Nice bag.
Two contorted and crooked thumbs up.

PS - The 8500 is _the_ best laptop I've ever owned. Bar none. But don't
tell dell, they may get (more) cocky.

This is the one I got. My 5205 fits snuggly it.
Though it doesn't say, it also has a waist strap, which is why I got it.
