Reliable laptop
Posted by Andy B on January 18th, 2005

I am looking for a laptop for basic business applications, but want it
to be fairly portable (weigh less than 3kg). Any advice about the
reliability and/or suitability of the following would be most welcome:

Dell Latitude D505
Toshiba Tecra A2
Sont VAIO B1VP

All are available with similar specifications. Dell seems to be the
default in the UK at the moment, but a but a fair bit more expensive
than the other two. Any advice on choosing the right one would be
most appreciated.

Beware of poor service/support from Sony.

I don't know about these specific models, but general feeling, having seen
lots of these threads and done some 'research' myself, is that Tecra's and
Latitude's are both very reliable, with good support. The Sony is also
reliable, but support is apparently dismal. Other brands which I have heard
are good are : IBM, Acer, Fujitsu-Siemens, Apple and Toughbooks (by
JVC/Panasonic?).
