removing a device from the DEVICE MANAGER list
Posted by Paul Rosenzweig on April 16th, 2004

I hope I am posting this message in an appropriate news group.

I am trying to install an IMATION external SUPER DISK floppy drive on
my WINDOWS XP laptop. I can complete the installation up to step 2.
I think that the instruction to remove SHUTTLE IMPACT device means to
delete the device from the list in the DEVICE MANAGER, not disconnection
of the floppy drive. I can't find the device removal option in the
DEVICE MANAGER. Any assistance in this effort would be appreciated.

IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU GO INTO THE BIOS OF THE COMPUTER
AND SET THE PARALLEL PORT MODE TO EPP. THIS SHOULD
BE DONE BEFORE INSTALLING THE DRIVER FOR WINDOWS XP.

Note: If your drive has never been connected to the system skip to
step three. If the drive has been connected to the system before and
is seen under Other Devices (see step two) follow the steps below:

1. Go to Device Manager
Right-click on My Computer and then go to Properties
Click on the Hardware Tab
Click on the Device Manager button

2. In Device Manager under the Other Devices category you will
see a device called Shuttle Impact Rev #00 or VID*****
(the item will Start with VID followed by some numbers)
Remove this device
3. Restart the computer
Once your system has rebooted, your system
will find new hardware (this is the
SuperDisk drive)

The INSTALlation WIZARD wants to instal a
SHUTTLE IMPACT device when I skip step 2.
