Safe mode prompt ? ? ?
Posted by Ray on June 15th, 2005

All of a sudden my laptop (HP Pavilion ze5375us, running Windows XP home)
attempts to go into "safe mode" everytime I boot up.

I always get opened up, but it takes time and is inconvenient.

This doesn't happen when I come out of hibernation or stand-by.

Any ideas welcome

Go to Start/Run command/type: msconfig[enter]. Select the General Tab,
click the Normal Startup button, OK. Reboot. You might see an msconfig
dialog on startup; make sure to click the box in the lower left corner
Do not start msconfig on startup.

Check Event Viewer logs for suspicious warnings and failures. In System
Properties, Advanced tab, Startup and Recovery, System Failure section,
uncheck Automatically Restart, check Write an event to the system log.
If there is a failure you will then see a BSD with an error message.
This will help with errors during shutdown.

You can also force one restart in normal mode with F8 (repeatedly) after
the power button is pressed. This will bring up the startup mode
selection menu. Select normal mode, see if that fixes the problem on
subsequent boots.
