seek very light weight laptop
Posted by AMcH on September 13th, 2007

I am shopping for very light weight laptop for international travel.
Most of time, I need my computer to do email and Skype phone calls.

So far, I found the best choice is Lenovo Thinkpad X60 at 2.7lbs for $1200.

Please tell me is there any better choice?
Do you have much experience with this computer in travelling?
Thank you.

I notice this X61 has no CD/DVD drive? Can I plug a USB external DVD drive
and boot from this drive?

It has built in Wireless WAN - mobile broadband - integrated wireless WAN -
Varizon Sierra CDMA 2000.
Is this feature requires Varizon cell phone services?

Thank you.

If the BIOS allows you too.

I believe that requires Verizon Wireless Broadband service which only
works around very large US cities. I haven't checked the prices lately,
but last year it was running about 70 bucks a month. And depending on
where you use it, it might not be much better than dialup speeds.
