I have a Sony Vaio PCG-GRX560, just over a year old now (but I do have
extended warranty!). I generally just leave it booted all the time,
but recently have had to reboot it regularly while travelling. I have
found that when it's "cold", it boots right up - no problems.
However, when I try and reboot it during this time, about 75% of the
time it starts up the reboot, the lights come on, the keyboard works
(in that I can press caps lock, see it light up, etc), the fan comes
on, the CDROM spins up - infact, everything looks perfect EXCEPT the
screen never lights up. No SONY logo, no VAIO goofy sound. F2
doesn't work - well, it might be working, but I certainly can't see
the bios.
OK, so in this state I obviously have to hold down the power button
for a few seconds until it turns off. Repeated attempts to boot
results in the same thing, basically all I can do is walk away from it
for a while (15 mins or so) and then it'll work.
Obviously this sounds like a hardware problem, though difficult to
reproduce all the time and I fear some technitian I take this into
will say (s)he cannot see the problem.
Anyone have any ideas? I've seen a few posts about something similar
with VAIOs where people said it had to do with the cables behind the
screen - though I see no way to get inside to make those kinds of
adjustments.
Thanks!
