- Sony Vaio - Programs Running in the background
- Posted by K. Bell on October 12th, 2003
Hello All,
I have a new Sony Vaio PCG-Z1RA laptop and while setting it up,
I've noticed a large number of programs running in the
background. This is my first experience with using a laptop and
WinXP home, so just what is needed. Surely I can close out some
of this stuff. The list is quite long, or I'd post it here. I
am sure some of the programs running are "Sony Related" and maybe
not crucial to the overall operation of the computer.
Any help would be appreciated.

Start/Run command/type in: msconfig [OK]/select Startup tab/ Review each
entry and uncheck those not wanted/needed. Use this site as a guide to
what these startup apps do:

Note that there is an app hkserv.exe which is the Sony hotkey utility
that runs the function key functions which should not be removed. (At
least this is the application on my Vaio laptop).
