Sony VAIO Video out issue
Posted by Rick Holland on November 14th, 2003

I've got my Sony VAIO PCG-GRT170 notebook set up with a 'camcorder'
type video out cable, but when I try to view certain video types, such
as NTSC VCDs or PAL DVDs, there's a blank 'hole' in the TV where the
video image *should* be, even though the image appears normal on the
laptop display. It's just the video image that's absent on the TV,
the surrounding desktop or background is displayed perfectly, and NTSC
DVDs work fine.

I'd like to be able to view the PAL DVDs and VCDs on my tv screen,
since these formats aren't viewable on my regular DVD player. Is
there some kind of driver that will allow me to do that?

Any help you can provide is appreciated!

I have a dell and when I connect to the TV via s-video I have to select TV
from the display properties, settings, advanced, video card type. Under that
I can then select TV or Laptop. I can either use the laptop screen or the TV
but not both. Hope this helps.

on my viao I need to cycle through Fn + F7 or Fn f8 to get the correct
output - some video only plays on the video out, blanking the lcd screen
