Maybe anyone can shed light on this?
I got a Travelstar (IBM/Hitachi) 80 GB harddisk to upgrade my
Sony Vaio Z505-JS. (had only 12GB before). Put it in, and system
constantly recycles at boot when it looks for the harddisk (SONY logo,
drive light, stays stuck on, then machine reboots immediately).
The drive never gets found.
Booting from floppy, I can see the drive fine, format it, put
stuff on it.
The Bios has been upgraded to the latest version (from their website:
PHA1A1XNAB.EXE).
Looking at the BIOS menus (PHOENIX) it looks like the support
maxes out at 65GB about (it displays that size for LBA mode) so
things get freaky with an 80GB drive.
Just putting on a 1GB bootable partition didn't help, system
still gets stuck at boot, couldn't see the drive at all, drive light
stuck on.
Looking at SONY's website, it looks like their PC support
policy is atrocious (they state that they dont support upgrades
of ANY kind?!?!)
Anyone ever succeed to get a large (>65GB) harddisk to work in
a VAIO?
I also noticed their most recent BIOS update on their website
is 3 years old.. (when you actually unpack the files).
Thoughts/ideas anyone?
Thank you!
Jack
