Screen is dark. I have tried FN and the brightness up key.
When I hold FN and tap F8 (CRT/LCD), the screen comes
up bright for couple of seconds and then goes dark again. It
does that every time.

Help!!!

I hooked an external screen to it and can see that.
I discovered that the touchpad does not work. I connected
an external mouse and it works.

What could cause this?? I was able to get into BIOS for a
minute and saw that the date is way out of date (2003).

The video drive was bad. That confuses me because the screen would not
light up except for
few seconds even in BIOS setup. But once I downloaded and reinstalled video
driver, the screen
on laptop became reliable. It is till not stretching and I can't find that
setting so maybe there is
still something wrong (other than software). I am going to reformat and
reinstall everything.

Right click on main screen. Choose Properties and then the Settings tab.
Drag the Screen resolution slider to the correct size for your screen.
