Synaptics has a software development kit which includes source code to
disable the touchpad.
I built it and deployed it to my Inspiron 1100 (Vista). It works very
well.

If anyone is interested send me an email and I'll zip it up and send
it to you.
If I get a lot of emails I'll upload it to my site and post back to
this thread.
