- TFT Resolutions

If I get a laptop with an SXGA display, max resolution 1284x960, for
example, and I hook up an external monitor to it, does that resolution
limit stay in force? Or is it only limited when I use the built-in display?

I have never tested, but for my TFT screen I have only 800 x 600 and 1024 x
768 (also its native resolution). For an external screen I can choose from
12 possible resolutions, but I never really tested it.
My laptop is a Paradigit Voyager.

The resolution "limit" only refers to the internal display, which in the
case of SXGA is 1280 x 1024, and is more an indication of the display's
physical limitation due to the layout and number of pixels. Connecting an
external display will usually allow for much higher resolution.
